The Freshers’ Debate

Join DebSoc for an exciting and controversial debate featuring a variety of notable guest speakers. We’ll be posting the motion closer to the time on our various different pages, so keep an eye out.

Sunday 4th October, all day, Great Hall

This is a huge event for new students to find out about all the different societies on campus. We’ll be there with our very own stall! The Squash is the ideal time to sign up officially for the society; you’ll get your very own membership card and a chance to buy stash.

Please send me details of any forthcoming debates and inform me if I am welcome to bring sixth Form students along. Thanks.

    1. Chris Fullbrook Says:

      Dear Lyndsay,

If you could give me your email address I will gladly add you to our mailing list which will inform you of all debates, which your student would be welcome to attend.

I would also be keen to speak to you about the possibility of running a debating workshop or a debate with your students. As encouraging debating societies in schools is something the society wants to move into this year.

If this is something you would be interested in taking further then please contact me.

      Best Regards,

      Chris Fullbrook

I’ve added you to the mailing list, and someone will be in touch very soon with a brief list of the next few events.

    2. Emma Green Says:

      Hi Michael

Our next event is this evening in the Parker Moot Room at 7.30pm. We are hosting the question time for Student Honourary Degree Nominations so come along and join in. We hold workshops every Monday at 7pm in Queens LT1 where you can develop your speaking and debating skills and then a big debate in the Parker Moot Room every Friday 7.30pm. Hope this helps and look forward to meeting you.

      Thanks

      Emma

  3. Helen Thorneycroft Says:

    Hiya!
I’d like to join debsoc but can see I’ve missed the workshop on Monday. Any chance i can just turn up on Friday and not speak?? Helen

  4. Lucia Beltrame Says:

    Hi,
Like Helen I would like to know if it’s possible to just come and see without necessarely joining in the first time…
    Thanks,
    Lucy

    1. garymclachlan Says:

The audience don’t ’speak’ at Debates, except where they have a question at the end of a debate – at Workshops on a Monday you get a chance to join in with debating if you’d like, or just watch if you don’t feel like getting in too deep with your first few visits :)

  5. Alex Hunter Says:

Could you add me to the mailing list too?

    1. garymclachlan Says:

      Done Alex

  6. Stalker Says:

    Hi

Who is Chris Fullbrook? He sounds like he is really short.

  7. Park Says:

    Hi,

Could you add me to your mailing list, please? I’ve never attended any of your events yet, but I’m interested.

    Thanks =)

  8. garymclachlan Says:

I’ve added you Park. For all future enquiries on the mailing list, please first visit http://xnet.ex.ac.uk/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/debsoc-members/ where you can subscribe yourself, otherwise this comment section is going to get ridiculous.
